Metadata Thoughts
- look at the VRA Core 3.0 examples for some ideas
- some metadata to describe the file (image/audio/video)
- format
- type
- date created
- size
- resolution
- some metadata to describe the object which that file depicts
- type (i.e. photograph, digital photograph, quilt, etc.)
- subject
- materials (cloth, etc.)
- physical size
- era/coverage (the time in which the object was created)
- generation (the generation to which the object is attached)
- family member "ownership" (family member(s) to which the object is connected); repeatable
- relationship (relationship of family member(s) to myself (archive author))
- ...or their relationship to grandma/grandpa? (the branch-off point)
- Relation.Part of = Part of Disasters of war (identify what the relationship is, and to what/whom)
- or else a family tree tracking of some sort; need to identify these relationships easily
- look at visualization programs for inspiration; make it linkable (use DC Relation?)
- also information about compound objects...
- what about anecdote / story element?
- is it important to record the source / author of anecdote?
- Description.Anecdote
- Description.Object
- Description.Anecdote Source
- what about quilt compound object; description of squares, etc.
- do i get separate metadata for each aspect of the item, or no?
For Metadata Report
- elements
- label
- definition
- comment
- qualifiers
- example
- naming conventions
- controlled vocabulary (identify, describe)
- name authority
- input rules (maybe preliminary)
Time Periods
- should it be designated by:
- time period / era (great depression, world war II)
- generation (baby boomers, genX)
- decade (1950s, 1980s)
- specific date (1971, 2003)
- will probably use a combination of a few of these
